Brewster was first settled in 1656 and incorporated in 1803. The town was named after Elder William Brewster, a religious leader of the pilgrim settlers. Brewster is home to the country’s first water-powered grist and woolen mill, Stony Brook.
Ocean Edge Mansion was the summer home to Samuel Mayo Nickerson and his family. This 1,800 acre property was originally built in 1890.On the property you can find the main house, Fieldstone Hall, a carriage house, a windmill and tower used to generate electricity. Samuel’s 800 acre private game preserve is found across the street and is known as the Nickerson State Park. Much of the original furnishings, artwork, and architectural details can be found within the mansion.
